Each year, between 90 and 110 students sign-up for 6th-Grade Band. The challenge is to give as many students as possible their first choice (provided they have had success on that mouthpiece) and create a band that will provide a successful and meaningful experience for all band students. Shown below is the approximate band instrumentation for 80-110 students:
- 15-20 flutes
- 1-3 oboes
- 15-20 clarinets
- 1-2 bassoons
- 8-10 alto saxophones
- 15-20 trumpets
- 3-6 french horns
- 10-12 trombones
- 2-4 baritones
- 2-3 tubas
- 8-9 percussionists
Students who play flute, oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, and trombone provide their own instrument. Many families choose to rent instruments from a music store. Click here for more information about rental programs.
Percussionists rent a bell kit to practice on at home, but use school-owned instruments at school.
Students who play bassoon, french horn, baritone and tuba use school-owned instruments.
